Will Smith's Freestyle References Oscars Controversy
Will Smith, the Academy Award-winning actor and rapper, has seemingly alluded to his controversial slap of Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars in a recent freestyle performance.
While appearing on British DJ Charlie Sloth’s Fire in the Booth, Smith delivered the lines, “If you talking crazy out your face up on the stage and disrespect me on the stage, expect me on the stage.” He further added, “Jokers dish it out, cry foul when it’s time to take it/City full of real ones, wasn’t raised to fake it.”
These lyrics seem to reference the notorious incident at the 94th Academy Awards, where Smith confronted Rock after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.
Rock had quipped, “Jada, I love ya. GI Jane 2, can’t wait to see ya,” referencing the film GI Jane, where Demi Moore’s character has a shaved head. Pinkett has been candid about her battle with alopecia. Following the altercation, Smith publicly apologized to Rock, stating, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.” Subsequently, Smith resigned from the Academy and received a 10-year ban from attending its ceremonies.
